Definition

A method often used when testing antibiotic sensitivity and tolerance. This method consists of inoculating the entire surface of an agar plate with a test organism. Then, several small and absorbent paper discs which are impregnated with different antibiotics are placed on the agar surface. After incubation, the antibiotics diffuse creating a zone of growth inhibition around each disc that contains an antibiotic to which the organism is susceptible.
