A simple biochemical test preformed in order to determine whether or not a bacterial strain produces catalase. To preform the test, a drop of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) is added to a bacterial colony or emulsion. If the cells contain catalase bubbles of oxygen, gas will appear promptly.
