Definition

An acid-fast stain in which a heat fixed smear is flooded with carbolfuchsin and then heated and rinsed in water. The slide is then decolorized with acid-alcohol (HCl in ethanol for example), rinsed, counterstained (with malachite green for example), rinsed and dried.
