Definition

A monosaccharide derivative of glucosamine. One of the two alternating amino sugars which make up the structure of peptidoglycan (alternating units of N-acetylglucosamine and N-acetylmuramic acid). In fungal cell walls N-acetylglucosamine makes up the polymer chitin.
